Karen Kornblum Berntsen is a designer who has received numerous national and international awards for her work, some of which was included in the opening of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. She has designed complex systems, museum exhibits, books, websites, and educational materials for students in grades K-12. Karen is currently an Associate Teaching Professor at the HCI Institute at Carnegie Mellon University where she teaches students about interaction design, typography, information architecture, and the visual display of complex information. She has developed and implemented a pedagogical framework for teaching interaction design within the HCII. The framework ensures that students learn high-level thinking skills, design methodologies, and design craftsmanship across the curriculum as whole and within each assignment. Karen has a BFA in drawing and printmaking and an MS in Interactive Media.
