Android App Scanning

A surprising number of Android and iPhone apps have behaviors close to spyware. We have two separate projects here.

One is to combine automated scanning techniques with human crowdsourcing, to understand the behavior of Android apps and summarize the privacy and security behaviors of those apps.

We’re looking for people with skills in Android programming to help here.

The other is to improve an existing GUI we have built for analyzing the behavior of apps. Basically, we want to make it so that a freshman here at CMU can use our tool to understand what data an app collects about you, what servers it shares the data with, and when. We’re looking for people familiar with (or interested in learning) Java Swing programming to help here.
