The User Experience Designer is responsible for performing a lead role in the research and interaction design efforts for Cummins Power Generation products. Cummins Power Generation is business unit within Cummins Inc. Cummins Inc., a global power leader (Fortune 500), is a corporation of complementary business units that design, manufacture, distribute and service engines and related technologies, including fuel systems, controls, air handling, filtration, emission solutions and electrical power generation systems. Headquartered in Columbus, Indiana, (USA) Cummins serves customers in approximately 190 countries and territories through a network of more than 500 company-owned and independent distributor locations and approximately 5,200 dealer locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Envision and design the user experience for new products and features as well as enhance it.
  • Design and assist in contextual inquiry of end-users and work closely with product managers and consultants through the usability research phase
  • Create storyboards, paper prototypes, detailed and comprehensive wireframes, workflow schematics, and prototypes that precisely and effectively communicate the information design and interaction design.
  • Collaborate with the internal engineering teams to ensure applications are programmed to meet design guidelines and meet both client needs and technical constraints/requirements.
  • Work with engineering teams to help them respond and resolve UI task flow, interaction trade-offs and questions.
  • Perform usability testing of completed applications to verify the design meets user needs under real-world conditions

Required Qualification & Experience

  • Currently enrolled in Master’s program within HCII, PhD’s preferred
  • Ability to write clean, precise and detailed Information Architecture documents (mockups, wireframes, interaction diagrams)
  • Experience working with Business Analysts and Subject Matter Experts in a User Experience product development lifecycle.
  • Ability to multi-task and react positively to frequent changes in priorities
  • High level of project organization, attention to detail, and time management
  • Ability to lead a cross-functional team to consensus.
  • Manage changes to existing systems to ensure that they fit with the long-term strategy.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams as the User Expert role.
