Our Team
Our team consists of six students from various backgrounds in the Masters of Human-Computer Interaction program. Although we all participate in research and design, each person has leadership responsibilities as well.
Diya Gangopadhyay Co-Research Lead

Diya did her undergraduate studies in the field of Design in IIT Guwahati, India and got interested in HCI during her courses. Her primary motivation behind joining the MHCI program is to get a more focused HCI background and experience the multi-disciplinary nature that defines this program. A fascination for Natural Language Processing and its applicability to enhance user experience drew her to the Salesforce project.
KyungMin Kim Co-Technical Lead

KyungMin studied IT Business and Computer Science Engineering in Korea and came to Carnegie Mellon in August 2008. During the MHCI program, she has enjoyed learning design and psychology and is interested in applying that knowledge to prototyping and designing interactive systems.
Karl Nieberding Design Lead

Karl discovered his passion for interaction design and usability while studying Computer Science at the University of Maryland. After working as a User Experience Developer at a consumer electronics startup, he came to Carnegie Mellon to expand his skill set, where he has designed creative solutions for Mayo Clinic and iCarnegie.
Marshall Roch Co-Technical Lead

Marshall is finishing up his Bachelors of Computer Science in the accelerated MHCI program. He has been building web apps since he was eleven, and has interned as a UI Developer at Salesforce and worked on I Want Sandy. Marshall is excited to combine his interests in web development and natural language processing to rethink the way business software works.
Austin Sung Co-Research Lead

Austin is an accelerated MHCI student completing his Computer Science undergraduate degree. Austin is fascinated by online business, and he learned the important role of HCI during an internship with the Yahoo! Advertising User Experience team, which motivated him to pursue a Masters degree in HCI.
Emily Vincent Project Manager

Emily got her Bachelors in Computer Science at MIT and then headed out into industry. She has worked as a Software Engineer at Bose Corporation and Draper Laboratory, both of which were user interface work. After seeing how much HCI is needed in industry, she came to Carnegie Mellon to figure out how we can get software developers and UI designers to collaborate–not argue.
