The Software Engineering Institute (SEI,) part of Carnegie Mellon University, is a federally funded research and development center. The SEI staff works in the areas of software engineering, comput er security, process improvement, and information assurance.
The SEI works closely with defense and government organizations, industry, and educational institutions to:
- Research to find solutions to software engineer ing problems
- Identify and standardize technological and methodological solutions
- Setup pilot programs to test and refine the so lutions to help industry and government solve their problems
- Distribute proven solutions through training, licensing, and publication of best practices
The SEI's core function is to help organizations improve their software engineering capabilities and to develop or acquire the right software.
