Ideation

Brainstorming

Following consolidation of our research findings and deciding on design implications, we held several rounds of brainstorming where we iterated upon ideas, as well as created concepts that pushed the boundaries of existing photo applications. Those sessions varied in the number of people involved, as some were done as individuals, some as pairs, and others as a whole team. We strictly prohibited critiquing or evaluating others’ ideas while they were generated and left the evaluation and analysis to later. All thoughts and sketches were documented for future access and reference.

Charettes

As part of the ideation process, our team held a unique brainstorming session in which we promoted and generated out-of-the-box thinking for overall concepts, features, and interation techniques for our system. In order to rank the concepts, we each individually scored the concepts on the Benfit to the User, the Ease of Implementation, and our Interest in Pursuing Design. These scores were averaged, giving a larger weight to the benefit, and a lower weight to the ease. As a result, some aspects became meshed together, such as the Solitaire and Solar System charettes that evolved into the Photospace and Piles model used in Pixaura.
