Project Summary

Mulberry is the scalable, cross-platform, standards compliant IMAP and POP email client used by hundreds of schools and institutions around the world. Since its initial development in 1995, Mulberry has been growing, adding new functionality and support for the latest email standards and servers. Unfortunately, the user interface has not kept up with the same rapid development and standards of quality as the powerful underlying email handling engine.

The CMU HCII Mulberry team was given the task to identify and fix the user interface problems in Mulberry and present design guidelines and a redesign of the most critical parts of its interface. Working since
January 2003, our team of five collected relevant user data, identified problem areas in the current product, and then split up to tackle each area independently.

The five critical areas addressed are:
* Preferences
* Folder Management
* Address Book
* Interface Simplification
* Attachments

Each subproject involved one or two members of our team doing prototyping, testing, and documenting, with collaboration between the subprojects in the cases of overlap.

This website reflects our work on the human interface side of Mulberry, which we believe will compliment Mulberry's incredible feature set. With our investment of effort over the past seven months, we feel that Mulberry can now join the ranks of the other top email clients, both in terms of human interface and email handling capabilities.

Welcome to the new Mulberry!
