Members Profile Kevin
Fox He wants to change the world. Joining the HCI Masters program after
designing interfaces at Yahoo, Kevin is looking forward to designing the communications
products and services that people will use every day. Prior to attending Carnegie
Mellon, Kevin was a student researcher at UC Berkeley's Group for User Interface
Research, where he received his Bachelors degree in Cognitive Science, and was
the global webmaster for Levi Strauss, where he learned the ways of the corporate
world. Touted as a 'usability guru' by The New Yorker and a 'miscreant' by Wired,
Kevin enjoys creating personal projects that play off the nascent communications
metaphors offered by the Internet. Most of Kevin's online exploits pass unnoticed
(and unfinished), while some have made the front page of the Wall Street Journal,
Harpers Weekly, and CNN.com. He also likes cheese and now works at Google as UI
designer. Janice
Golenbock She is a part-time student in MHCI. Through her two years in
the HCII, she worked full-time for Professor Cleotilde Gonzalez in the Social
and Decision Sciences Department. Her research focuses on dynamic decision making.
Currently, Janice's interests are in elementary education and interaction design
and she hopes to design software to faciliate learning. Receiving a B.S. in Computer
Science with a minor in Linguistics from CMU in 2001 gave her the opportunity
to be heavily involved on campus, holding leadership positions in mulitple organizations
for both graduate and undergraduate students, as well as sitting on the Graduate
Student Assembly as one of the HCII co-representatives. Janice also volunteers
at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, is a big sister for Big Brothers Big
Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh, and tutors at a local elementary school.
Kevin Lee
He is as a zealous practitioner of HCI, has been working with Magic Screen, the
web agency in Atlanta, Georgia as a chief usability consultant for 3 years. Previously,
he led a team of interaction designers as Web Director at Netdive Inc. As a responsible
graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University, Kevin has been working with the
HomeNet research group at Human-Computer Interaction Institute as a project manger
for Palm Pilot Study, designing, carrying out, and analyzing the data. He has
shown his strength in UI and interaction design, and usability talents through
numerous recognition and awards from the industry. Currently, Kevin tries to apply
his knowledge and practices in HCI and CSCW research areas by focusing on UI and
interaction design of information awareness system, social impacts of UI and SUI,
and other HCI and CSCW related systems which allow successful collaboration among
people in dispersed location using multi-modal interfaces. He is currently a UCD
/ Usability Specialist at GE Medical Systems Global Headquarters.
Andrew M. Lin
He received his undergraduate degree in Interdisciplinary Computing in the Arts
and Cognitive Science at the University of California, San Diego. Concurrently,
he worked as an Information Architect and Experience Designer for a local branding
company. He has completed projects for a diverse set of clients, including Ziff
Davis Publishing, Hewlett Packard, and Harley Davidson. He is particularly interested
in utilizing the computer in social environments, to foster communication and
to bring people together. Even in a football town, such as Pittsburgh, Andrew
is still exhilarated by the crack of the bat and a brilliant infield play.
Courtney
Moskowitz She studied psychology at Cornell University before arriving
here at Carnegie Mellon. While finishing her undergraduate degree, she realized
that her education didn’t feel complete. She wanted to further explore her
interests in design and computer science, so she headed to graduate school to
combine her background in psychology with these areas. She is fascinated with
interdisciplinary fields such as cognitive science, because she feels that nothing
in life is so simple that one can fully understand it by looking through a single
lens. In her spare time, Courtney enjoys drawing, running, judo, and learning
to sail. Liya
Zheng Liya is an Accelerated MHCI student. She received an undergraduate
degree double majoring in Information Systems and Human Computer Interaction from
Carnegie Mellon in 2003. She enjoys a wide variety of small endeavors, she co-founded
a real estate company at the age of 15 (which is successfully operating today),
worked as a financial adviser (specializing in estate planning) at 19, graphic
design at 20, and recently (23) worked at Angel studios (currently Rockstar San
Diego) helping them make video games as an usability specialist. Her next endeavors
will involve doing "usability and product design" during the day and
film school at night. And she wishes for "world peace" |
